The impact of our work can be seen in classrooms, households, workplaces, and communities across Burundi. Girls are participating more confidently in school, women are building stronger livelihoods, families are improving their health and living conditions, and communities are creating environments where menstruation is no longer a barrier to opportunity.

How change happens
The outcomes we see are shaped by multiple factors working together. From menstrual products and sanitation to livelihoods, health, and community support, lasting change happens when girls and women have access to the resources, opportunities, and environments they need to thrive.
Through the local production of reusable products, and community distribution systems, we make menstrual dignity more accessible and sustainable, so that girls and women participate confidently in school, work and community life.
We work with schools to improve sanitation facilities, strengthen menstrual health education, and create supportive environments where girls can manage their periods with confidence and continue participating fully in school life.
Through savings groups, income-generating activities, sanitation improvements, and family wellbeing support, we help women and families build the stability needed to sustain health, dignity, and opportunity over time.
Through vocational training, local manufacturing and employment pathways, women gain practical skills, income opportunities, and greater financial autonomy while contributing to menstrual hygiene solutions rooted in their own communities.
Through community sensitization, school clubs, and conversations involving parents, teachers, men, and boys, we help normalize menstruation and encourage more supportive attitudes and behaviours.
By integrating menstrual health education with sexual and reproductive health services, family planning, and healthcare access, we help women and girls make informed decisions and seek care with greater confidence.

We believe that real impact is about more than the number of products distributed or trainings delivered. Therefore, we measure changes in knowledge, behaviour, wellbeing and opportunity, to understand whether our work is helping create lasting improvements in the lives of girls, women, and communities.

Menstrual Health & Dignity: We track access to menstrual products, school participation, support, and menstrual health practices to understand how menstruation affects daily life and opportunity.

Health & Wellbeing: We measure knowledge, healthcare access, reproductive health outcomes, and family wellbeing to understand broader changes in health and dignity.

Household Resilience: We monitor savings, income-generating activities, economic participation, and women’s decision-making to assess long-term resilience and empowerment.

How we collect data
Our teams collect information through household surveys, school monitoring, community visits, focus group discussions, and interviews with participants and local stakeholders. We use digital tools to ensure accuracy, reduce errors, and enable faster analysis across our programs.
Following change over time
We do not rely on a single survey. We establish a starting point, monitor progress throughout implementation, and conduct follow-up evaluations to understand how outcomes change over time. This helps us distinguish short-term activities from lasting change.
Quality Assurance
Our teams use standardized tools, regular supervision, data verification processes, and multiple sources of information to validate findings. Survey responses are cross-checked with school records, savings group registers, field observations, and community feedback.
Turning evidence into action
Measurement is valuable only if it leads to better decisions. Findings are regularly reviewed by program teams and leadership to identify challenges, strengthen activities, and allocate resources where they can have the greatest impact. This allows us to adapt our work based on evidence and community realities rather than assumptions.
