Menstrual Hygiene Management
Promotion of menstrual health and hygiene through video projections
13 Nov 2024
As part of its commitment to promoting community health, SaCoDé carried out mass awareness-raising activities on menstrual health and hygiene in areas not yet covered by the AGATEKA program. This activity took place on August 29-30 and September 12, 2024. These sessions were attended by over 1,900 women of childbearing age. They included screenings of educational videos, testimonials and interactive discussions on menstrual health and hygiene.
The overall aim of these activities was to promote better menstrual hygiene management, while encouraging membership of Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs).
These associations not only provide spaces for financial empowerment, but also offer secure access to menstrual hygiene products, such as Agateka washable and reusable sanitary pads, produced by SaCoDé.
The sessions took place in the following provinces and communes: Cibitoke (Commune Mugwi), Karusi (Commune Shombo), Ngozi (Commune Ruhororo), Muyinga (Commune Buhinyuza), Makamba (Commune Makamba) and Kirundo (Commune Bugabira), Gitega (Commune Bugendana).
During these sessions, question-and-answer games were played, with the winners receiving prizes such as loincloths, soaps, and even a cell phone for the overall winner.
Through these sessions, participants not only gained a better understanding of menstrual health and hygiene but also expressed their commitment to working together in VSLAs.
In addition, 660 women took the initiative of forming 22 Village Savings and Loan Associations to benefit from SaCoDé's various projects.
